The Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument is part of the Bureau of Land Management’s National Conservation Lands. The Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, proclaimed by President Clinton on June 9, 2000, was the first monument established to protect a unique community of plants and animals. The CSNM is located in southern Oregon southeast of Ashland, and includes Pilot Rock, Soda Mountain, Hobart Bluff, white fir and Douglas-fir forest north of Highway 66, and a corner of Hyatt Lake.
The Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument was established by local residents in 2000. The FCSNM’S primary goal is to support the Bureau of Land Management as it carries out the mandates of the presidential proclamation. The FCSNM’S mission statement has three parts:
· To advocate for and educate about the scientific and historic values for which the CSNM was established;
· To foster public support for the protection of the area’s ecological integrity and biological diversity;
· To support BLM's essential role in protection and conservation of the Soda Mountain Wilderness area.
The Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument fulfill our mission through education, advocacy, and outreach, with occasional manual labor. You can help by:
· Providing educational outreach to schools
· Leading interactive opportunities for adults
· Assisting with scientific monitoring, wilderness monitoring, and visitor contact
· Staffing First Friday and other information events
· Greeting visitors at the Greensprings information center
· Work days – weed eradication, fence removal, restoration…
· Fundraising
· Donating
